The collections of the Museum are included in the museum collection of Polotsk National Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve and contain several thousand museum items.
The formation of the collections, which later formed the basis of the museum's exhibitions, began in 1948 with the restoration of the activities of Local Studies Museum in Polotsk. Among the first collected items there were samples of captured weapons, homemade weapons of partisans, photographs of soldiers and officers of the Red Army - natives of Polotsk region, photographs of participants in the city's liberation operation, paintings dedicated to the theme of the Great Patriotic War.
The next stage in the development of the collections was associated with the opening of the Museum of Combat Glory as a department of the Local Studies Museum in the 50th Anniversary of Soviet Power Park in 1971. Research associates Olga Ivanovna Tretyakova and Vasily Andreevich Kupriyanov made a great contribution to the acquisition of the collections and the creation of the first museum exhibitions.
A significant part of the museum items, which today forms the basis of specialized collections, were transferred to the museum by the participants of the Great Patriotic War - the liberators of Polotsk, former partisans, as well as their relatives. Among the items there are military relics from family archives, documents, diaries, photographs. Many items were donated by government agencies and public organizations.
Today the museum continues to replenish collections of museum items and scientific auxiliary materials on the theme of the Great Patriotic War. In the course of research work, the museum staff replenish the collection with finds from expeditions, archives, and auctions. The museum also accepts items connected with the Great Patriotic War as donations. If you have personal belongings, documents and photographs of your grandfathers and great-grandfathers who passed the fiery roads of war, bring them to the museum! In the Museum of Combat Glory, these testimonies of a bygone era will find new life as museum pieces. And you will contribute to preserving the memory of our ancestors who defended the honor and independence of the Motherland in the Great Patriotic War!
